Wiping Solution Recovery
In intaglio printing, approximately 1,000 liters of wiping solution are consumed per hour to clean the plates of a single printing machine. Traditionally, chemical treatment methods are employed to separate the wiping solution from excess ink, necessitating the use of multiple chemicals, including flocculants.
At GWT, we champion a sustainable alternative: a purely physical ultrafiltration process that eliminates the need for additional chemicals and yields higher recovery rates.
Ultrafiltration Unleashed
Our commitment to environmental stewardship drives us to employ a purely physical and dependable recovery process. This process combines sedimentation and ultrafiltration, using ceramic membranes to separate ink particles from spent wiping solution. Leveraging state-of-the-art measuring instruments, we minimize the need for chemical additives during the refilling process.
Automated cleaning routines and the ability to use alkaline and acidic rinsing further enhance membrane longevity and filtration quality, with a proven lifespan of 10+ years in operation. Additionally, GWT’s sludge dewatering and drying systems enhance recovery efficiency, achieving recovery rates of up to 97%, depending on ink concentration.

Cattaneo Meccanica S.r.l. was founded in 1944, specializing in manufacturing and assembling particular mechanical components. During the 1990s, the family company continued to work with total commitment and resolution achieving success in the engineering industry and decided to expand internationally in the field of the printing industry.
In 2011, a new division was established, Cattaneo Security, whose uniqueness is the ability to design and construct high-quality web-fed intaglio printing presses, prepress equipment with a direct laser engraving system, and polishing system and rubber cutting machine specially developed for our web-fed press. Constantly searching for new solutions, Cattaneo Security has created a department of Research & Development with skilled engineers devoted to constantly improving products and realising tailored projects requested by the customers.
The most significant project coming out from our laboratories and now widely appreciated is Helios HD, the direct laser engraving system for intaglio plates and RCM II, a special Rubber Cutting Machine for intaglio inking cylinders, both of them perfectly compatible with Komori and KBA presses.
To complete our range of products and services, the close collaboration with consolidated companies successfully engaged in the refurbishment of banknote printing machines brings Cattaneo Security in the position to offer to the high-security market complete maintenance and overhauling of KBA machines.

Cattaneo Meccanica S.r.l. was founded in 1944, specializing in manufacturing and assembling particular mechanical components. During the 1990s, the family company continued to work with total commitment and resolution achieving success in the engineering industry and decided to expand internationally in the field of the printing industry.
In 2011, a new division was established, Cattaneo Security, whose uniqueness is the ability to design and construct high-quality web-fed intaglio printing presses, prepress equipment with a direct laser engraving system, and polishing system and rubber cutting machine specially developed for our web-fed press. Constantly searching for new solutions, Cattaneo Security has created a department of Research & Development with skilled engineers devoted to constantly improving products and realising tailored projects requested by the customers.

In-Core Systèmes is a leading technology company, whose expertise is concentrated around imaging systems and optical methods for 100% surface inspection of continuous processes.
The core activity of the company is to design and manufacture automatic surface inspection systems based on line scan cameras, high performance illumination and computer technology with its proprietary process software Lineavision®.
IN-CORE Systèmes is a leading supplier of in-line and off-line inspection solutions at all steps of the manufacturing process of banknotes and security documents, both at substrate making level (paper, polymer, durasafe) and Printing works.
At the printing works:
- The automatic inspection solutions can be retrofitted in exiting printing machines enabling 100% inspection of the printed sheets for quality control, fast detection of process drift and flexible defective sheets management help to optimize machine yield and reduce waste.
- The sheet to sheet automatic transportation, inspection and sorting solution
- The off-line Smart table equipment can be used for single sheet conformity and printing qualification. The information obtained will also allow to adjust the printing parameters in the printing processes.
